Meet Ash, the only male of the recent greyhounds that came into our care. Like his sisters, he is a gentle and easy going dog. He is now living at our shelter as his owner no longer wanted him for racing and surrendered him so that he could find a home as a pet. He is 2.5 years old. He is a very gentle dog and is a dream to walk on a lead. Did you know the greyhound is one of the oldest breeds in history? These dogs have been traced back over 4,000 years to early cave drawings and are the only breed mentioned in the Bible. By giving a greyhound a home, you are taking on a true thoroughbred and a breed that has been “mans’ best friend” for thousands of years! Greyhounds make great pets for all kinds of individuals and families. They are low-maintenance, gentle and laid-back dogs that don’t need lots of exercise, about a hour a day is usually sufficient. Greyhounds will gladly spend the rest of their time dozing quietly next to you (often on their backs, with all four legs in the air!) It’s hard to beat the ‘lazy lean’ of the greyhound who is happy to lean itself against your legs if you stop to talk when out walking. Ash can be a little reserved when he first meets you which is very typical of a greyhound, however he will soon come around and will be taking treats out of your hand. We do not recommend a greyhound to a home with cats or small dogs. Ash is vaccinated, is due for castrate this week, and is chipped (chip number 972274000482082, origin Ireland).
