Tariq: applications closed

Tariq is a gentle and affectionate greyhound who is now in our care and is looking for his perfect home. He loves humans and human company . He is a huge favourite with our volunteers as he loves to come into our kitchen and make himself as comfortable as possible in the softest place he can find, most especially if there is a warm lap where he can lie his head, or if there is someone available to scratch behind his ears. He is very gentle on the lead and is very clean in his kennel and is just the most personable, biddable dog imaginable. He is very much the couch pototo as he loves to laze around and snuggle whenever possible, and he has certainly perfected the greyhound lean where he will happily lean against your legs if you stop when out walking. He loves when the sun shines on the garden, and will make himself comfortable in the warmest, sunniest spot he can find. He gets on supper well with the other greyhounds at our shelter, sharing his kennel and run with two others, and having a good run around the garden with them too. As greyhounds can have a high prey drive, we do not recommend them to a home where there is a cat, or a small furry dog. Greyhounds make the most wonderful and most affectionate of pets and they are the true incarnation of the couch potato.
A common misconception is that greyhounds need a ton of exercise, but this is not true as they are used to running fast bursts on the track and then taking it easy for most of the day…many will spend most of their day asleep and are very partial to a nice spot in the sun. Often they will follow the sun around your sitting room to ensure that they have the nicest, warmest and most comfortable spot. Greyhounds make great pets for all kinds of individuals and families. They are low-maintenance, gentle and laid-back dogs. After exercise greyhounds will gladly spend the rest of their time dozing quietly next to you (often on their backs, with all four legs in the air!) Because greyhounds are gentle by nature, most are fine with children provided children are taught respect for animals. Greyhounds are very loving with their human companions, but they also have a highly-developed sense of personal space, and children must be taught to respect that. That being said, the overwhelming majority of greyhounds do great with children…..please note that we will not rehome to families with children aged 5 and under. Greyhounds are sighthounds; they can see the movement of a squirrel up to half a mile away. Since they are the second-fastest land mammal (second only to the Cheetah) and are capable of reaching speeds of up to 45 mph within three strides, an off-leash greyhound who sees movement in the distance and decides to chase it will be in the next county before you can say “Come back!” Greyhounds do not know to fear roads and cars, and will run out in traffic at full speed with no thought of personal danger. It is absolutely crucial to keep your greyhound on a leash at all times if not in an enclosed area.
Tariq has been neutered, vaccinated and chipped (chip number 972274000435241, origin Ireland).
