The KWWSPCA is very grateful to the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine for its grant funding for animal welfare and for the award of €80,000 to the KWWSPCA for the coming year. This is very welcome at a time of increasing costs for the Society, especially veterinary costs.
So far in 2025, the KWWSPCA has taken in and rehomed or helped more than 1,000 cats and dogs, enabling them to live much healthier and happier lives. Over 250 dogs and over 350 cats have been rescued and rehomed; all these animals would have been neutered (if old enough), microchipped, vaccinated and treated for worms and fleas before going to their new homes. As well as these domestic pets, the KWWSPCA has also trapped, neutered and returned or rehomed over 420 feral cats, allowing them to live much healthier and safer lives.
The KWWSPCA is an entirely voluntary organisation, there are no paid employees and all the work done, in its Shelter, in its foster homes, in its Charity Shop, Noah’s Ark, in Newbridge and all its welfare and fundraising activities are done by volunteers. These volunteers are the backbone of the KWWSPCA and are to be greatly thanked for all the work they do as a team.
Special thanks must be given to Minister Martin Heydon for his support of animal welfare. The following wording and photos are from taken from his Facebook page:
‘The welfare of animals continues to be a priority to me, my Department and Fine Gael in Government. I’m delighted to be in a position to provide the highest ever allocation under the grants programme to animal welfare charities throughout the country, including €80,000 for Kildare West Wicklow ISPCA and €90,000 for My Lovely Horse Rescue.
I want to also pay tribute to the wonderful staff and all the volunteers in these organisations for their dedication to achieving the best possible outcomes to animals in their care.
And for those considering Christmas gifts, remember that a pet can bring great joy, but with that comes responsibility. Owning and caring for a pet is a major, long-term commitment. Remember, a pet is for life not just for Christmas!’
